FAQs
What is the insurance that the YACR holds?
The YACR has public liability insurance for the Association, officers and members. This covers if any member is legally responsible for the loss or damage to someone else or their property
What membership is covered by the YACR Insurance?
The insurance covers all categories of membership; life, qualified, associate, non-resident member.
What is covered?
Members are covered for bell ringing, maintenance and fundraising events. Fundraising includes, for example, the use of halls for meetings and publicity and social events (including the use of mini-rings).
Am I covered while ringing on holiday?
The insurance only covers ringing activities within England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
Am I covered while ringing peals?
The YACR rules require all the band to be a member of the YACR, therefore, the band is covered by the YACR insurance. If ringing peals on behalf of other societies you may be covered by that society insurance policy.
Am I covered while ringing quarter peals?
This would depend on the legal entity for the ringing. If ringing for service, or for the church you would be acting on behalf of the church and hence covered by their insurance. They may be circumstances where you will be covered by the YACR insurance.
Am I covered repairing or working on bells and bell frames?
Generally, this should be covered by the church's own insurance.
Am I covered for organising outings/events?
This would depend if the outing/event was organised as the tower or on behalf of the YACR. If organised as a tower you may be covered by your own church's insurance as acting on behalf of the PCC. YACR events are covered by the YACR insurance.
The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers has published guidelines which describe in detail insurance and bell ringing activities.
